Methods

I use various teaching methods depending on what works best for each individual. Everyone has a different learning curve and personality, so I try to create a fun environment that works specifically for each student. This approach has been successful with over 50 different students for the past twelve years.

My goals as an instructor include the following:

  • Building a good foundation in the basics of drumming: Rudiments, Music Theory, reading Rhythms, correct Stick Technique and positioning
  • Teaching the “role” of a drummer and/or percussionist
  • One-on-one instruction for each student
  • While each student is different and unique, I believe that practice, patience, and an adequate sense of rhythm are common traits that are needed to become a good drummer.

    However to become a great drummer, you also need to have D E S I R E.

Those traits are what have helped the majority of my students to achieve their goals, whether it’s getting section leader of the drum line, playing in a local band, or playing in a local church. Seeing students achieve their goals is the most rewarding experience of all.
